Hello friends welcome to gamerull.com Character switching is an essential mechanic in GTA 5 (Grand Theft Auto V) that allows players to switch between the three main characters Michael Franklin and Trevor. The process is straightforward but it may vary slightly depending on the platform you are playing on (PC, Playstation or Xbox). Here is a great guide to help you switch characters smoothly in the lower version.
Understanding the Character Cycle
The character wheel is the mission interface used to switch between GTA 5 mechanical missions. It is divided into 4 missions
- Michael : (The blue icon is on the top right)
- Franklin : (The green icon is in the bottom left)
- Trevor : (The orange icon is in the bottom right)
- Online Character : (If playing GTA Online the white icon is in the top right)
When you switch characters the game progresses smoothly by zooming out to a bird’s eye view of the map and then zooming back in to the selected character’s location
Step by step guide to changing characters
On consoles (PlayStations and Xbox)
- Access the Character Wheel : Simply hold down the D-pad (directional pad) on your controller and this will bring up the character wheel
- Select a character
- Use the right analog stick to steer the wheel
- Desired character (Michael, Franklin, or Trevor) Highlight and release the D-pad to confirm your selection
- Switch back : Repeat the process to switch to another character.
On PC
- Access the character wheel : Hold down the left Alt key on your keyboard
- Select a character
- While holding down the Left Alt key, move your mouse to highlight the desired letter on the wheel
- Release the left Alt key to switch to the selected character
- quick switch shortcut : Use the (F5 Franklin) (F6 Michael) and (F7 Trevor) keys for Tabrit character switching without opening the character wheel
Things to keep in mind while changing character
- Progress dependencies : Some missions or areas may lock certain characters. If you can’t switch to a particular character, it may be because their story progress is at the point where inventory restrictions have been reached.
- Eligible locations : When you switch to a character they are usually busy going about their daily activities for example Michael could be relaxing at home Franklin could be walking his dog Chalk and Trevor could be in a chaotic situation
- Switching in missions : Multiple characters may require you to dynamically switch between them during missions. Follow the on-screen prompts (usually displayed in the corner) to change characters as instructed.
- Cooldown : After changing the container, there may be a slight cooling effect before changing again
